According to research company Prisma Research, the value of GPS navigation systems for mobile phones will grow in Finland from EUR 100,000mn in 2004 to over EUR 6mn in 2005. new FEMA flood elevation maps now online
From the Biloxi Sun Herald ... Beginning today, Coast residents can look up their property on the Internet to find out what elevations FEMA recommends for construction in areas subject to tidal surge. FEMA has increased flood elevations by 3 to 8 feet along the Coast. Building to those elevations, whether local governments require it or not, will protect property in future storms. The new advisory elevations are based on data collected over the past 20 years, including trend analysis from hurricanes Elena, George, Ivan, Isadore, Lili and Katrina. GIS Day at Oregon State University
The OSU program will join more than 2,000 other schools and organizations that will host GIS Day events in 90 countries around the world. A special activity will be held for more than 400 local middle school students and their teachers, including presentations, videos, a global positioning satellite “hike” across campus, and a “kid’s keynote” address by Analisa Gunnell, chief cartographer at Ecotrust, on saving the salmon. OSU's GIS Day activities are sponsored by the Department of Geosciences, the College of Forestry (in conjunction with the USDA Forest Service and the USGS), and the OSU Valley Library, and will include a special program for over 400 local middle school students and their teachers who will visit the OSU campus.
