Event of interest - airport GIS conference
I was asked to share details of this interesting event with our blog readers and GISuser visitors... The American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) is pleased to celebrate the Tenth Annual GIS Conference & Exhibition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania May 1-4, 2007. For the tenth anniversary of this unique conference, the only one dedicated solely to the use of GIS in airports and aviation, the focus will be on how far the airport GIS community has come in the past ten years and where airport GIS may take the aviation world in the next ten years. In addition to a wide variety of presentations, panels and open discussions, the conference provides an exhibit hall, an airport GIS tour, a golf tournament, and opportunities for sharing lessons learned with other airports from across the U.S. and around the world. Small, medium, and large airports are encouraged to attend this educational program. For more information see http://www.aaae.org/fs03/meeting_documents/0413regbrochure.pdf

Need Wi-Fi? Try this new database with more than 180,000 hotspots
Ever been on the road and in need of Wi-Fi? No doubt you have so this database will likely be useful to many of you. Given the proliferation of WiFi enabled cell phones and the increasing reliance on mobility by most of us this is a handy utility. Spotigo boasts some 180,000+ hotspots in their database and in a test run it appears to be so. Simply select a country, then a town and wait for the database to load. You can then pull hotspot information by carrier (e.g.. perhaps you have a Sprint account etc...) The database is a bit of a pig due to its size but the results are definitely adequate and useful. Remember, WiFi doesn't mean access is free so beware of fees that may be involved. Most major carriers offer monthly plans and are a great alternative for those of you that constantly pay for web access from your hotel room. See http://hotspots.spotigo.net
View a ‘real-time’ representation of the Earth from ACRES satellites
A new visualization tool on the ACRES web page will allow visitors to get a real-time, bird’s eye view of the planet from our suite of Earth observing satellites. The front page of the tool displays a list of all satellites from which ACRES acquires data. After selecting a satellite, a 'third party' web tool called Earth Viewer displays a representation of Earth below the current position of that particular satellite. To view the visualization tool see http://www.ga.gov.au/acres/acres_view.jsp then simply select a sensor from the list
