Ping.fm Beta - posting to 14 social networks

Another new tool to help post to all your (well some of them) social networking services. Ping.FM from proficaltic enables users to register and post away. So far I'm not thrilled as I got my beta login but it doesn't seem to already recognize my existing profilactic username. I'll have to tinker around a bit more - see ping.fm

Mobile developer (J2ME) with gMaps API experience

I have another colleague in search of developers if your interested. Company X is looking at developing a very cool mobile application - J2ME - supported by Symbian S60 smartphones like the N73, N95 etc... Ideally the app will also involve streaming data (like vids, photos) to a web server from the mobile and perhaps integration of the gMaps API into the web service. this is a very interesting opportunity for those interested also with a short timeline so someone is needed ASAP. Contact glenn at gisuser dot com if you want to be considered or need more info.

A tip - Weatherbug Severe Weather Alerts (mobile too)

I'm not sure about you but I'm getting tired of trying to keep tabs on the weather and more important, knowing if my area is under a severe weather alert (like a tornado). Chances are if you have the TV on or the radio you MIGHT get an alert. These are totally unreliable in my opinion though. Case in point, I have comcast for cable TV... I get interrupted for severe weather, sometimes, but the info alert is broken and sometimes not informative enough. And the radio... well, I'll put it this way, a couple of weeks ago when a tornado ran by about 1.5 miles away from yours truly, the local radio station (which I had on) was playing music... ya thanks for that! Mindyou, I'm pretty much always on the PC or else I have my smartphone with me so it makes sense to have alerts via those mechanisms... enter WeatherBug. Jump there and you can download a free PC client (ad supported) and the service will load and inform you of severe updates. For mobile, a pay for service is available -this is an award winning service I believe - or it should be! See www.weatherbug.com

Interesting video presentations

I'm always interesting in seeing cool, new innovative marketing methods being used on corporate websites. Case in point, have you seen the GTG promotion that you get when you hit their homepage? A staffer appears in the lower-right corner of the page and provides a concise, clear description of the company's services... quite impressive really! Not rocket science, but nonetheless, not used extensively yet for some reason. See http://www.geotg.com
