Delorme this week has announced a very cool product suite that delivers an "all-in-one" suite that includes a GPS device, DeLorme maps and aerial imagery - no additional mapping software purchase or subscription is required. DeLorme Topo USA(r) 6.0 DVD software is included with the device, this includes topographic and road maps of the entire U.S. Topo USA 6.0 works with Microsoft Windows(r) Vista(tm) as well as Windows 2000 and XP. With its waterproof rubberized housing, the Earthmate GPS PN-20 is designed for rugged outdoor use. It measures just 2.43" W x 5.25" H x 1.5" D and weighs only 5.12 oz. I am a long time DeLorme user since the serial port days where batteries or a jumper powered an external box a little smaller than the current cube tissue box. I'm glad because I recently purchased a bluetooth GPS suite for over $350 and I'm crying. The install from Belkin (which DeLorme is responsible for at LEAST VERIFYING that much) destroyed my user account on the machine (all desktop settings, email, etc.), destroyed my video setting to the point where I could not get them back, and then destroyed my boot sector so that I may have to have and expert come in to fix it so that I don't lose data -- I live on that machine. I strongly recommended to DeLorme that THEY test or AT LEASE verify the installs when changes occur to anything. And for those who might want to disagree with that, I ran a software company (which ran on Windows, Linux, and NonStop operating systems) that did test EVERY CHANGE we knew of and ALWAYS did after any customer ever reported problem.
Okay, go ahead, you can check on the boast. Dale Blommendahl and DESB both have a lot of web references. Please don't hack at my former employer ... they really, really don't like it. My email is daleb@desb.us running on Exchange (and if you're going to hack my IP addresses please for your safety let me know in advance put "request hack permission" in the subject and request a receive and read response and then wait until you get an okay).
