Recent initiatives at the federal, state, and local levels have been promoting the idea of a consistent and uniform grid coordinate system that will provide an efficient reference mechanism for all location-based systems and services. To that end, the USNG has emerged as the preferred reference system and presentation format for National Spatial Data Infrastructure applications.
